Reservations
BASICS
We welcome campers with tents, pop-up trailers (18', 21', 25') and small pick-up (slide-on) campers. RVs, teardrops, travel trailers, hybrid trailers, and dual-wheeled pick-up campers cannot be accommodated. There are no electrical hook-ups or pumping stations.
Each site is unique. Some are suitable only for tents, others are suitable for pop-ups or pick-up campers. Please be sure the site you choose matches the equipment you bring!
Each site can accommodate 2 adults or 2 adults and accompanying minor children. The person making the reservation must be 21 or older, and must stay at the site.
One vehicle per campsite. Limited overflow parking for a second vehicle is available off-island.
We regret that we cannot allow pets.
Hermit Island Campground is for registered campers only - visitors are not allowed within the campground.

Prices do not include the 9% Maine Lodging Tax. The tax will be added to your total.
We also rent 3 small cabins on a weekly basis during the regular season. They can be rented for less than a week in the off-season. See "Cabins" page for details.
We have 1 yurt available, on site 34E Dune Way.
RESERVING A SITE
1. For 1 week or longer & Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend (3-day package):
- January - by mail only - send in your letter by the 2nd week of Dec. for best results
- February - by mail or phone
- A $125 deposit is required - include with your letter (check only).
- Full payment must be sent with your letter for Memorial and Labor Day stays.
Letters received before Jan. 1 requesting reservations for stays of 7+ nights as well as the Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends will be processed beginning the first working day of January by random selection. Mail received after Jan. 1 will be opened in the order in which it was received after the other requests have been processed. We strongly suggest you mail your request in early December.
2. For stays of less than a week (or longer):
- March - by mail or phone
3. Requests for multiple sites should be sent in the same envelope. EACH SITE must be registered to the specific individuals/family actually camping on that site. A $125 deposit is required for each site requested.
4. For EACH SITE requested by mail, include:
- name, address, phone & email
- type of equipment used (tent or pop-up including length when open)
- number of adults 21+ (2 max)
- number of children and their ages (under 21)
- arrival date
- departure date
- names of individual campsites requested in order of preference (5 Boxhaul, 10 Joe's Head, etc.).
- For multiple site requests, indicate which family will stay on each site.
- Write " Or do your best" and we will pick a site for you based on your equipment, dates, and availability if none of your site selections are available. If being "on the island" takes precedence over "site spot", make this clear!

We now take reservations for off-season stays. Off-season rates begin on May 23, 2024 and end on June 27. The fall off-season begins on Sept. 21 and ends Oct. 13. This is a change from several years ago, when campers could select a site on a first-come, first-served basis.
CANCELLATIONS AND CHANGES
Reservations made in Jan. and Feb. may not be shortened. Cancellations will incur a fee of $125 (equal to the deposit).
No refunds will be given for Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend reservations. Reservations for these dates may not be transferred to other dates.
Refunds will be given for reservations that are canceled 7 days or more before the first night's stay. However, a fee equal to the amount of the last night of the reservation will be charged.
No refunds will be given for bad weather. This is camping.
A fee of $25 will be charged for more than 3 changes to a reservation. (per site, if more than 1 site is reserved)
A Hermit Island reservation may only be booked, changed, or cancelled through the reservation desk by the camper who made the reservation. Changing the name/family registered to a site is not permitted during the camping season. For a site to be booked by another customer, it must first be cancelled by the person who made the original reservation. No site may be transferred from one camper directly to another.
